As babies grow to be toddlers, the question of what is the perfect toy does come to mind. Being at the tender age of 2 is where most parents are warned about “a little ones mind being like a sponge” so parents then flock to places such as Toys R Us, Target and Wal-Mart to find useful and engaging toddler sets. But the question is what kind of toddler set should one get for that inquisitive toddler to keep them contented and occupied?

One great toddler set is the one with play food. Many years ago most toy sets contained your basic food groups-apples, oranges and bananas for fruit which represent some of the first fruits that children encounter; carrots for the veggies and usually eggs, meat and fish. Nowadays with the multi-cultural society, imagine a child opening up a toy set as a gift and finding a pretend sushi set? With a little imagination, your toddler’s Halloween Party can be a magical and unforgettable event that will create a special memory for both of you. Before letting their fantasy costume-making skills run wild, Moms will do well to consider some practical basics.

Make sure that your little one is able to walk and move around comfortably. No part of the costume should get in the way of their feet so they will not trip and fall. The costume should be reasonably comfortable so that they can enjoy some of their tricks or treats. You also need to ensure there are no loose parts on the costume that can cause a choking hazard.

It will help to remember that nature does call even for little ghosts and princesses; so put them in a costume that is easily removed just in case your child needs to use the potty.

When dressing your toddler for Halloween, it is probably wise to leave the scary costumes to the older children and adults who act like children. A toddler may become frightened at the sight of gruesome skeletons, ugly witches, and slimy monsters.  Read more...

To begin with, here are the ground rules for grown-ups. First, don’t overload your kids with toys. Too many at once will simply overwhelm them.  Second don’t take away old favourites – even if doggy, teddy, or dolly has been loved to bits. And third: suggested age ranges aren’t set in stone. Be patient if a child can’t yet cope with some particular game. She’ll soon get the knack.

As a natural, on-going part of our work as parents, teachers, early childhood specialists and others involved with children at home or elsewhere we observe children at play. This includes selecting the right products to enhance play and learning.

We can depend on the durability and versatility of such items as blocks, construction toys, games, puppets, and transportation toys. They stimulate the imagination, engage the player, have value and hold up over time.
